Batzer Build its Own
With steady growth over the past 53 years, Batzer Inc. has had to continually add buildings to make room for 100-plus current employees at its North Ross Lane facility. In recent years, the Batzer management team has assessed, evaluated and discussed ideas for when and how to upgrade its property. Finally, in late 2006, with a plan in hand and future growth in mind, Batzer began building its own. By June, work had been completed on the building and employees began settling in their new space.
Now, all departments at Batzer are under one roof, including Project Management, Accounting and Contract Administration, Human Resources and Payroll, Business Development, Estimating and Technology, along with offices for the President and Vice President.
To complement the remodel, Batzer redesigned and repaved its parking lot. In addition, custom artwork in the conference room celebrates the life of founder Jack Batzer. Each piece includes sayings that represent the legendary humor of the company's founder. Jack's words have had such an impact, his sons and the Batzer staff lovingly refer to them as 'Batzerisms.'
"Our employees are much more comfortable and productive with the new layout," said Batzer President Russ Batzer. "And it is very special to have my father's words on the walls of our conference room. He was very well known for his oddly profound sayings, and I think it's how he would like to be remembered."
Fran Batzer and Gail Barkley created the interior drawings and designed the layout of the new building while Leonard Sundberg acted as Project Manager. With Many hands make much change as Batzer's motto, the project team also used the gifts and talents of several other staff members.
The corporate colors of black, red and grey were incorporated into the design, with many unusual graphic finishes making a bold statement, including mosaic flooring designs, skylights and brushed aluminum countertops and desks. Also, the corporate logo carved out of a sheet of steel and backlit in red is a special feature with aesthetic lighting sculptures as fixtures in the bathroom. The result is a model for state-of-the-art office renovation.
