Mazda Showroom Becomes
a Show Piece

At Crater Lake Motors, the newly remodeled Mazda Showroom on Biddle Road has become a showroom of another kind, with striking specialty building materials incorporated in the unique architecture. "We can thank the beautiful design of this project to architect, Gary Breeden AIA." says Batzer President Russ Batzer.

According to Batzer Field Superintendent Leonard Sundberg, the building is one of only 10 such completed Mazda Showroom designs in the U.S., and one of two in the state of Oregon. "It was a new challenge working with unfamiliar specialty products," Sundberg explains. "When you are working for the first time with a new product line it is always exciting. I find you have to be creative and perform do due diligence to assure you achieve the desired results."

The façade and interior required the installation of multiple exotic-colored pre-finished architectural metmetals that had to be handled carefully in order to prevent scratching and small dents. While the entire project tested the team's expertise, the hardest part of the job, says Sundberg, was ensuring perfect workmanship with strips of expensive metal along an 80-foot wall. "We succeeded in making perfect lines in between the different colored metals."

With the new products and the additional time spent researching the installation of these products, Sundberg describes the project as fun and rewarding. The well-seasoned superintendent, who has been with Batzer for more than three decades, said that working with the owner and his representatives made this an exceptionally good project. Russ Batzer agrees. "It was exciting to see everything come together. It was one thing viewing the project on paper, but it was completely different to see the finished work look so incredible.""
